Batt insulation
Batt insulation is formed by adhering spun fibers either glass, mineral wool, low-grade fabric or textile waste to asphalt treated paper or foil backing for installation between structural building elements. Batt insulations get their insulating property by trapping air between fibers. Concerns related to fiberglass and mineral wool batts include high energy consumption during manufacture and possible health effects from inhaling fibers. However, they have lower embodied energy use than rigid products equating to lower environmental impact. Higher recycled content results in a lower impact.
